Reinventing Photography, running from September 18 to December 20, 2026, is an exhibition commissioned by the French National Center for Visual Arts (Cnap) and developed in dialogue with Hangar's open call for projects. Awarded the "Bicentennial of Photography" label, the exhibition marks the 200th anniversary of photography's invention by turning the medium's gaze upon itself, questioning its history, and exploring new possibilities.
The exhibition brings together fifteen commissioned projects from Cnap and five from Hangar's open call, presenting a diverse range of artistic approaches. It offers a journey through time, forms, and ways of seeing, thinking, and making images, serving as a snapshot of contemporary photography's concerns, languages, tensions, and potential futures. The participating artists, from various backgrounds, are united by their rigorous and free exploration of the photographic medium, aiming to honor its essence while pushing its boundaries.
