Huberty & Breyne, espace Paris | Chapon presents "Dessins de presse" (Press Drawings), an exhibition featuring the work of Chaval (1915-1968) and Georges Wolinski (1934-2015), two prominent figures in French press drawing and graphic humor. The exhibition spans nearly half a century of creation, highlighting the resonances between their works, characterized by a shared freedom of tone and a critical perspective on society. Both artists were widely popular, with Chaval prominent in the 1950s and 1960s and Wolinski active from the 1960s through the early 21st century, contributing to publications like Paris-Match, Le Figaro, and Charlie Hebdo.

Their drawings, while immediately effective, offer deeper reflections on the absurdities of existence. Both artists employed a minimalist style, with a few lines sufficient to create characters and situations. Chaval pursued the precise idea, while Wolinski developed a simple, recognizable line. They shared a common goal: to question the world, cultivate the absurd, challenge conventions, and reveal societal flaws through humor. Their observations of contemporaries are marked by a blend of tenderness and cruelty, depicting characters as flawed and vulnerable. The exhibition aims to reintroduce Chaval's singular work alongside the celebrated oeuvre of Wolinski.
