AU-DELÀ DE LA VILLE
AU-DELÀ DE LA VILLE (Beyond the City) by Jonas Moënne explores the tension between urban life and the rural territories that sustain it. The exhibition challenges an urban-centric perspective by drawing attention to nature, rurality, and the agricultural world, which are often rendered invisible by city life. Moënne investigates the complex relationships between city and countryside, nature and culture, and humans and non-humans.
The multidisciplinary artist utilizes traditional knowledge, a deep understanding of materials like granite, clay, and glass, and an interest in folklore to create works that reflect these intertwined relationships. Moënne's practice is characterized by an attention to natural and reclaimed materials, resulting in works that are often minimalist and biomorphic. The exhibition constructs a dialogue between different realms—animal, vegetal, fungal, mineral, and climatic—and their divergent temporalities, from deep geological time to the human scale of global warming.
