Veils of Light
“Veils of Light” is an exhibition of works by Jonathan Adolphe (1952-2022), a contemporary American painter, held at Frédérick Mouraux Gallery in Brussels from September 6 to October 24, 2026. The exhibition features translucent works that explore themes of the sacred, emotional fragility, and human ephemerality.
Adolphe's artistic practice involved materials such as urethane, fiberglass, smoke, powdered pigment, and spray paint. His paintings are characterized by a separation between an interior image and a protective exterior skin, aiming to evoke the sacred through light and transparency. He described his process as a form of abstract writing using smoke and urethane, drawing parallels to natural phenomena like fog, mist, and ice to reveal underlying fragility.
