Ethereal Geology

Ethereal Geology

Ethereal Geology is a solo exhibition by Taiwanese artist Liu Chien-Kuang, continuing his ongoing project "Stone from Other Mountain." Based in Gustavsberg, Sweden, Liu explores his Taiwanese identity by treating glass as a dynamic medium and pushing its material limits. The exhibition presents an immersive installation of glass sculptures that evoke natural elements, described as "dreamstones" and meditative vessels.

The works in "Ethereal Geology" focus on jade, a gemstone significant in Taiwanese and East Asian culture, symbolizing purity and integrity. Liu translates the unique translucency and depth of jade into glass, capturing its subtle colorings and weight. These sculptural vessels are presented as carriers of ancient memory, bridging past, present, and future, and prompting contemplation on humanity's connection to the Earth and geological history.
