Under the Chandelier
Galerie Eric Mouchet Bruxelles presents "Under the Chandelier", the first solo exhibition in Belgium by Liza Sivakova (b. 1997, Russia). Working between Dresden and Paris, Sivakova's paintings depict interiors where decorum falters: an elephant joins a dinner party, a man collapses under a table, or a woman dances barefoot while suited figures continue their conversations.
The exhibition features recent oil paintings, pastels, and collages that explore the mechanisms of power, its staging, normalization, and transmission beneath a veneer of elegance. Sivakova's practice, informed by her upbringing in post-Soviet Russia, investigates the visual strategies through which political authority is constructed and embedded in daily life. Her multi-layered compositions blend archival images, found photographs, and personal materials, merging historical reality with fiction and allowing different eras to coexist.
