In Shape of a Heart Brussels
In Shape of a Heart brings together paintings, sculptures, and videos that explore human affection and its semblances of love. The exhibition considers the animalistic nature outside of us and the human within the animal, moving between pets, anatomical figures, and bodies containing rooms and passages.
Found digital images are reprocessed through physical materials and gestures, imbuing them with substance and texture. A persistent, perhaps disappointing, desire to look beneath the surface for something more real or intimate runs through the works. However, opening a body, sculpture, or another person may reveal only further surfaces, seams, and constructions, with the heart never quite conforming to imagined shapes.
